Fulldome Planetarium Shows!

As a science education resource, many of Fleischmann Planetarium’s entertaining shows for all ages also correlate with the new K-12 Next-Generation Science Standards (NGSS) adopted by Nevada and California state boards of education. For more about the standards, visit www.nextgenscience.org.

WE CHOOSE SPACE!© and SpaceNow

A fulldome planetarium show funded by NASA and produced by the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Home Run Pictures and Tietronix, with scientific oversight by Rice University

For audiences of all ages who dream of space and wonder about human spaceflight after the Space Shuttle! Join Astronauts Scott Parazynski, Tom Jones and Gene Cernan and veteran space reporter Walter Cronkite as your tour guides on an adventure to the International Space Station and to the past and future moon. The journey even features fulldome imagery from the fisheye lens on the ISS! After production, WE CHOOSE SPACE! was reviewed by NASA scientists and engineers, and includes a robust educational component with demonstrated academic impact. You’ll also learn the latest science and space exploration news from NASA and beyond in a SpaceNow update! Educator’s guide available

Extreme Planets©

Back again by popular demand! (Our visitors love this show!) Few mysteries in the universe have the power and awe of the black hole. Only now are we on the verge of understanding their true nature. From the outer reaches of space and time, through wondrous galaxies, to the majesty of our own solar system, take a grand tour of the universe, its most provocative secrets and the major components of the cosmos. We'll also see what's up in the springtime sky in SkyTonight!

Family Show: Larry Cat in Space©

A fulldome planetarium show by Audio Visual Imagineering and Spitz®

Take off on a lunar adventure with a curious stowaway cat. This program is a playful cartoon presentation about an inquisitive cat who takes a trip to the Moon. Through Larry’s eyes, we observe his human family, a group of enthusiastic sky watchers. For children in grades K-3 but fun for all ages!

Family Show: Attack of the Space Pirates©

Accompanied by amazing sound effects from George Lucas’ Skywalker Sound, the Starship Intrepid travels through hyperspace in this fun and exciting adventure, where you and the crew will put real science into science fiction and solve numerous challenges along the way. For children in grades 4-6 but fun for all ages!

What’s happening in our night skies this month? Find out from staff and guest astronomers using our state-of-the-art planetarium equipment to view current astronomical objects and events in spectacular detail!

Weekly Spring Star Party at MacLean Observatory in South Reno!

MacLean Observatory at Redfield Campus

Come check out what's up! Join us in south Reno for free telescope viewing every Friday at the MacLean Observatory on the Redfield Campus (see map), weather permitting. Weather conditions that may cause cancellation include cloud cover, haze, precipitation, wind and cold temperatures. Call ahead for updates at (775) 784-4812.

Hours: Every Friday except July 3 (weather permitting) 9-11 p.m. (This is an outdoor event with no indoor facilities available.)
Tickets: FREE for all
